They are great with kids and great watch dogs. They are great dogs to have around the house even if you are not going to hunt them. I have a 5 month old male feist right now that will tree every breath on a caged coon or a squirrel hangup. Mine are open mouthed on the track and chop mouthed on the tree. They kill every coon, possum, groundhog, rat, mouse, mole, muskrat, and stray cat they can. I have a few that run loose for varmint dogs. I don't know a thing about Feists, I have heard they are good little squirrel dogs but I have never heard of anyone hunting squirrels with dogs in Vermont.
